no. detection runs on a low-priority queue using Apple's built-in Vision framework. it's lighter than your browser tabs.
does it record me?
no. frames go from the camera into the detection model and are immediately discarded. nothing is saved to disk, nothing leaves your Mac. ever.
does it work with external monitors / closed-lid mode?
it needs an active camera, so the lid has to be open. external webcams work too — pick one in settings.
what about glasses, hats, weird lighting?
fine. the detector looks for phone-shape + hand-proximity, not your face. you can be a silhouette and it still works.
what's that number in my menu bar?
